You and your project are unique and the exact design process will refect this.
However I hope here to give you an idea of what a project may involve.
The initial design process starts with a full understanding of your needs and the structure's intended use. Then my job as a designer is to develop a three dimensional form that fulfils these criterior, to create a space with a fitting ambience (cosy, light, intimate, impressive, open or warm). A form emerges and appropriate materials and finishes are selected.
The structural design process is about finding a stable and
efficient method to support this three dimensional form.
This is one of my favourite parts, developing and refining
joinery details until a fluent and economic structure emerges.
Sometimes it is a structual idea that comes first,
but as I've said, each project is unique.
Drawings are used in almost every aspect of a project. I find that they are the best way to present and communicate ideas.
