One of the joys of my work, is the variety of techniques I get to play with:

Wood fresh from the steaming box Steamed wood secured to it's forming jigs

Steam Bending
When wood is subjected to heat through steam, it
becomes flexible. If it is then bent around a curved
form and left to cool, it will retain this shape.

Behind the scenes: Lime plaster on lath work Carvings on lime render

Lime renders and washes
Lime is a naturally setting material that requiring less
energy to manufacture than cement. It remains flexible
for many years, is highly breathable, and rapidly
disperses water over it's surface allowing it to quickly
dry out and avoid moisture build ups.

Timbers marked out ready for scribing Natural curved timbers

Scribe Joinery
A traditional French method that allows timber of any
shape to be joined accurately together. This makes it
possible to use branches in their natural form.
